Materials Analyst - Downers Grove, IL

Details: Linkedin Position Summary:   Supports the North American direct material purchasing activities of $665+ million (ingredient & energy categories) supporting both meat and bakery lines of businesses and nine business units.  This Material Analyst will work closely with category managers and suppliers to improve cost, quality, and service key performance measures as well as work with the Supply Chain and Marketing teams to execute strategic sourcing plans, product improvement and growth initiatives.  Balance Demand with Supply for ingredients while maintaining the target service level to the internal customers/plants. Optimize the inbound supply chain and standardize the materials management process.  Additional responsibilities include entry level strategic sourcing/buying activity for assigned categories.  Accountable to meet organizational financial goals, including cost savings, purchase price variance and market advantage targets set annually. Engage and collaborate with internal business partners to positively influence product development or product changes based on best practice procurement processes, and leading edge supply solutions achieved through strategic supplier relationships.   Essential Functions/Responsibilities:  SAP record maintenance/reporting and buyer messaging to include:  contract entry (SAP Outline agreements-time or quantity based), contract balance reconciliation with suppliers, source list, purchasing info records, create and update contract expiration log , Material Master (MM) construction/work flow, A/P inquiries, forecasting to suppliers.            -   Conduct Spot Purchase - Creating SAP Purchasing Info Records for Supplier-Material arrangements            -   Upload/data load process - maintain pricing database offline, transfer prices, new validity periods to SAP via templates and upload programs to create/maintain SAP contracts                daily/weekly/monthly MRP analysis/replenishment review of required stocking levels for packaging in the responsible plants and update SAP master data as necessary Business analysis-manage various reports for packaging commodities and contracted position administration Collect and analyze industry/market and internal data relating to pulp, OCC, corrugate, folding carton grades, metals, resins and other along with comparative analysis. Utilize SAP BW (Business Warehouse) and data analytics to create actionable reports enabling the optimization of procurement sourcing strategies (run historical and forecast queries to be used by Category Managers for contracting) Implementation and standardization of departmental procedures regarding Vendor Managed Inventory and apply the concepts of integrating our supply base to enable real time transactions through VMI. Freight / Logistics optimization by category - Freight analysis (I.e. prepay and add vs. collect) Balance aggregate supply with demand while supporting targeted customer service levels, new product introductions, and reduce risk of inventory obsolescence. Responsible for the implementation and coordination of supplier transitions with cross-functional teams and matrix resources tied to strategic sourcing activities (including overseeing material and vendor change requests).  Support the development of internal and external category profiles; Contribute to the development of Total Cost of Ownership models. Support the development of RFx requests, supplier recommendations, and selection criteria including qualitative and quantitative analysis, long and short lists, Assist with the development of fact-based negotiation strategies, development of high level and detailed benefits cases Work with Sara Lee subject matter experts and internal customers to gather and assess business requirements and contribute to the development of category implementation plans. Assist with the monitoring of internal customer and supplier compliance with supplier agreements.  Work with senior Procurement employees to manage internal customer satisfaction.  Coordinate Sara Lee Innovation Management (SLiM) project requests.  As tenure matures candidate will work closely with category managers to maintain vigorous and in depth understanding of commodity markets for assigned  ingredient categories spread across meat and bakery materials, and finished products to include:                    - Category Management - Internal Demand/Supply Market, Category planning, and value analysis                    - Strategic Sourcing - Competitive bidding using RFx protocol, Negotiation, Contracting, SAP Agreements                    - Supplier Management, Integration, & Business Alignment - material quality, price, service, and delivery                    - Price Risk Management - monitor market fundamentals of supply/demand factors & technical analysis to adjust or renew material pricing  to maintain financial reporting integrity and  PPV (Purchase Price Variance) Identify new supply solutions/materials/services required for new products or product changes not on contract, rationalizing requirements or SKUs, and identify on-contract alternative or replacement to satisfy requirements Identify new supplier entrants, offerings and leverage-ability for Sara Lee sustainable advantage Leverage supplier intelligence, monitor market fundamentals of supply/demand factors & technical analysis to adjust or renew material pricing  to maintain financial reporting integrity and PPV (Purchase Price Variance)
