Manager, Central Purchasing

Details: Gate Gourmet, Inc., a gategroup Company, is the world's largest independent provider of catering and provisioning services for airlines and railroads.  We have more than six decades of experience in providing tasty, nutritious, and affordable meals for travelers.  We serve more than 200 million meals a year to our 270-plus customers at some 120 airport locations around the globe.We are currently looking for a Central Purchasing Manager to join our Regional Purchasing Department located around Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, Georgia.  Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Supply Chain, the Central Purchasing Manager is responsible for monitoring the flow of materials, food and supplies in specified quality and quantities to meet customer requirements; controlling both inventory days on hand levels and maintaining minimal dead inventory; overseeing and ensuring the accuracy of information received from the unit, including daily inventories, invoices and physical inventories; providing support to multiple operating locations with regards to requisitions, usages, waste, product receipt, product storage, and any available support tools; assisting and training buyers to ensure compliance with Regional and Corporate purchasing programs, specifications, and other related activities.  This activity is across multiple locations.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Understanding of customer service manuals and other related specification sources.  Using customer flight schedules and 'Bill of Materials' (BOM) program determines quantities of all customer-required food and related menu components.Follows appropriate forecasting and analyzing procedures of load factor trends to determine appropriate quantities of required product purchases.Responsible for monitoring proper storage, rotation, and security of materials and assure all products remain wholesome and preventing loses thru spoilage.Assists units in generating and establishing and accurate daily requisition system which is monitored in a timely manner meeting production requirements.Audits and ensures accuracy of purchase requisitions and vendor invoices prior to payment through our A/P process.Reviews and verifies all invoices are accounted for in a given period.Monitors responsible units to ensure that an accurate food and controllable inventory is kept.Assures compliance with required corporate, local agency and federal government (FDA) guidelines for proper sanitation, food handling and temperature control (HACCP) practices.Communicates Company policies, objectives, procedures, and safety guidelines to all storeroom personnel.Acts as a chairperson of unit SPIRIT program and participate in the corporate SPIRIT program.Understands and insures compliance with Regional and Corporate programs, policies and product specifications.Assures unit maintains and reports accurate product substitution log and insures appropriate follow up actions are pursued.Consistently maintains a professional image in all relationships and interactions with suppliers, customers and other employees.Audits cost breakouts to compare actual vs. theoretical food costs and communicates noted variances to appropriate parties.Performs special projects and other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.Minimum RequirementsEducation:A high school diploma or equivalent.Prefer someone with College degree in related discipline.Work Experience:A minimum of one year experience in Food safety control practices (GMP's, SOP's, and HACCP) and quality program control.A minimum of four years wholesale or multi-unit food purchasing experience.Job Skills:Must have knowledge of HACCP, quality management and Six Sigma.Must have knowledge of FDA and USDA regulations.Must have knowledge of quality auditing, inspection methods.Must be detail oriented.Must be proficient in computers including Intermediate level of Microsoft Office Tool Skills such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Must have strong organizational skills, able to prioritize responsibilities and multi-task.Must have strong interpersonal skills, interacts well with multiple departments, as required.Must be able to work with little supervision.Must have general food knowledge and culinary concepts.
